Intermediate Rehersal, March 28th 2011
I’m shooting my Intermediate Production in my room. Intermediate Production (or IP for short) is the equivalent of a Chapman film student’s sophomore “thesis,” as it is the biggest project they do sophomore year and are completely in charge of the project from the writing of it to producing, casting, directing, and editing.
These are some shots of rehearsal with my actors.

Con Bro Chill, March 27th 2011
I met Con Bro Chill!
Don’t know who that is?
Watch some of his videos and then come back:
Did you watch the videos?
Good.
So now you see why this guy in one of my inspirations. I almost listed him as one of my “influences” on the site, but he didn’t quite make the critera (“influences” have to teach me something that helps me grow), but I do really want to do what he does. Making crazy, wacky, catchy music videos and just being fun and awesome all the time. That looks like fun.
Should I start growing my hair out?
Con Bro Chill aka Conner Martin is a Chapman Alum (he graduated last year), Chapman lacrosse player, and a popular personality on YouTube. I am a huge fan. I saw him chilling in Argyros Forum the other day, which is kinda funny because AF is also where I met Howie Mandel at the begnning of the year. Maybe I should just sit in Argyros and wait for famous people to come by.

Mark this as the beginning.
Photography world, here I come.

Back Flip Goal Check-in, March 25th 2011
Goal #26 for 2011 (Do a back flip at least twice a month to not lose the feel) IN PROGRESS
So here’s the check-in for March AND February as far as back-flips go. I did’t do a back flip check in post for February, so I’m combining it with March’s to get caught up, and so you know I’m still on track to achieve the goal.
2/21/11 – Did a back flip in the Orange Circle when I was taking photos and climbing buildings with Scott Stedman, Sam Hemman, and company. (Thats what the picture is from)
2/25/11 – Did a back flip at the DJ Earworm concert, which was held in the Hutton Sports Center at Chapman University.
3/6/11 – Did a back flip at RA group process with Josh Sorosky while we were on break. It was right outside of Henley Hall
3/27/11 -Did a back flip at Delt’s Skit practice. (I know according to the date of this post the 27th would technically be in the future, but I’m adding this on the 30th, so yeah, I’m not telling the future, this already happened.)
So there, all caught up for February and March. 2 back flips a month. Going strong.

Lindsay Spencer Quote, March 24th 2011
Lindsay Spencer is a good friend from back home. She cheorographed the Mr. Spartan Pageant dance the year I was in it and we have stayed in touch. Somewhat recently we were messaging back on forth on facebook and she wrote something that I decided to use as my own personal motivational quote. So now it’s on my mirror.

Six Flags with LeQuan, Rachel and Nia, March 23rd 2011
I have a car….
Six flags is only an hour away…
conclusion: We got a hotel room and stayed the night in Valencia, California. Didn’t bring my camera into the park because, well, Roller Coasters, duh, but did get some shots in the hotel room of us playing cards and stuff. Fun times.

New Lens 70-200mm 2.8, March 22nd 2011
Goal #22 for 2011 (Get a new lens) ACHIEVED.
I got a huge discount on the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 lens from my internship boss, who happens to be able to get great prices on lenses straight from Canon. This lens that I got is the premire lens for weddings, shows, events, pretty much anything where your subject is doing anything but posing for you. I’ve already used it a ton at my photo job at Dodge, and I’ll be using it a lot more at weddings.

Gallon Challenge, March 20th 2011
Most people don’t think that chugging a gallon of milk in an hour is humanly possible.
Most people consider themselves too “mature” to try such an act.
Most people are not US people.
Not only did we try, one of us succeeded. (Robert Star)
…and the rest of us….
…threw up violently.
Enjoy!

Pan-o-rama fail, March 18th 2011
So, in an attempt to complete Goal #4 (Learn how to do Panoramas in Photoshop), I did a full circle of the fountain in the middle of Old Towne Orange, hoping I would be able to learn how to piece them together in photoshop. Unfortunately, when I got to my computer and had the fantastic Josh Sorosky, telling me how to actually do it, it turns out I made a couple of strategic erros.
In order to do a good Panorama, you want the vertical shift of your camera to be as little as possible. Meaning having your camera on a tripod is going to make things easier. Which I didn’t.
And the other mistake, which is actually the real kicker, is that I didn’t keep the camera on a single point. Since I was moving in a circle around the fountain I didn’t quite have a central point to work off of, meaning that there would be some natural errors where my circle would be imperfect.
Hate to break it to you, but yeah, its true. I’m not perfect.
Rats.
This error isn’t insurmountable, but it takes a skilled panorama-editor to fix, and wasn’t really the best first-try learning material.
So instead I’ll keep you posted on the next time I try a Panorama, which hopfully will be more successful because I will know how to set it up better.
The rest of the night turned into some more building climbing in the circle and hanging out with Scott Stedman, Sam Hemann, Casy Bruce, and Jacob Fletcher. I got a cool HDR shot of the fountain too, it’s down at the bottom.

Beverly Hills Modeling Audition, March 17th 2011
Every once in a while I have to do something crazy. The other day, that crazy thing was driving up to LA and auditioning to be a model for One Source Talent Agency.
This wasn’t very long after I got my car either, so I hadn’t had a ton of freeway driving experience. If it wasn’t for the GPS that Sarah Lee lent me, I probably would have ended up in Vegas. Oh, and I actually stalled the car at one point in the middle of I-5. But don’t worry, that was because I was in traffic and nobody was moving.
The audition was really fun. They asked me how commited I was to modeling on a scale of 1-10. I totally lied and said 8. They lady immediately goes “Oh, we’re going to have to get that up to a 10.” Apparently 8 was not high enough for them.
The best part was that I got a callback audition the next day, which I couldn’t make because of RA meetings and classes, but I called them and they said to come back in the summer.
Got a photo of the Beverly Hills sign. The building I auditioned in is in the background.

Miss Huntington Beach Pageant, March 15th 2011
So, another reason my my internship is the best ever: We don’t just shoot weddings, we also shoot familys, portraits, oh, and beauty pageants.
Yeah, the miss Huntington Beach Pageant was on the 19th of February (Wow, am I almost a month behind on the blog already??) and Xuong agreeded to shoot the pageant for free as a chartible donation and for free advertising.
He gave me a 5D, a couple of shots that he wanted to make sure I got, and let me click away during the pageant. It was a fun night.

Cine II Panavision Camera, March 14th 2011
Panavision makes really high end cameras that blockbuster movies are shot on. They have an interesting marketing strategy though for distributing their cameras.
They don’t sell any of them.
The theory is that if someone bought their camera they wouldn’t need to buy anything else from them ever and the businss would die. Instead, Panavision only rents out the cameras in order to keep up a continual stream of revenue.
So the reason why that is cool is because Dodge has a Panavision Camera, and we got to put it together and shoot a mock scene with it. It was pretty amazing.
Chapman Ad Club, March 13th 2011
Chapman’s Advertising club is quite the prestigious organization. They took first place in the National Students Advertising Competition last year, and perpetually have industry insiders come and speak at club meetings. At a recent event they had called “Pursuit of Passion,” they had a panel of working professionals in the advertising business come in and talk about what they do and answer questions. I was there to take pictures for the event.

Josh Murray and his Broncos Scarf, March 8th 2011
I was at a Saturday Market the other day because of my internship with Happy Photos. I saw a Broncos scarf for 50 cents and I had to buy one for Josh.
Josh was my roommate last year and he is a pretty big Broncos fan. I know he’ll wear it and appreciate it, so it was fun to surprise him with a random gift.
