Saying Goodbye to Malibu and Pismo, August 4th 2011
Malibu and Pismo were our two birds. We had them for about 5 years. But once Daniel and I went to college, Dad was left to feed and water them everyday. He ok with taking care of them, but it started becoming a burden. Once we realized that neither Daniel or I would be able to take care of them after college either, it was time to give them away. We gave them back to the place where we bought them. The Animal House in Corvallis.
Here is the whole family saying one last goodbye.

Expeditions, August 2nd 2011
Over the summer I taught a class called Lego Engineering at Expeditions, a pre-college program put on by Oregon State University. When I was in 3rd grade I went to Expeditions, so its super cool to be teaching a class now. Its pretty much all I ever wanted to do when I was a kid. Make awesome lego creations.

Kreston and Bridie Wedding, July 31st 2011
Goal #17 (Get Paid to Take Photos At A Wedding) EVEN MORE ACCOMPLISHED.
Kreston asked me last summer to shoot his wedding while I was working at the pool with him. Technically he was the first to ask me to shoot a wedding for money, but since it was so far in the future, I had already shot a couple of weddings on my own before doing his. But this wedding beautiful. It was held in Umpqua, OR right by the river.

Born To Run, July 29th 2011
Goal #2 for 2011 (Read at Least 3 Books) IN PROGRESS
This book was soo good.
Part epic story, part running advice, part running history, part human psychology, part human development. All wrapped into one.
I had heard about “Born To Run” back when I was a senior in highschool. My cross country coach talked about it and some of the techniques it promoted (such as barefoot running) but only till now when I started hearing people talk about it again did I pick it up. It was really entertaining and interesting. I would recommend it to anyone with even the slightest interest in running.

4th of July Cake Tradition, July 28th 2011
Every year on or around the 4th of July Mom makes a cake that looks like the American flag.
And every year the 3 boys take a picture with it.
This year Mom and Dad did too!
And to see older years of the cake check this out: http://nathanworden.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/4th-of-july-cake-july-25th-2010/

(and YES the obligatory shirtless shot at the end was necessary. The reasoning: In a couple of years Josh is going to be buffer than Daniel and taller than me, and so I want a before and after, haha)
Brielle & Doug, July 27th 2011
Brielle McClain is awesome.
Like really. (check out her blog! : http://www.briellemcblog.com/)
Last summer I spent a lot of time second-shooting her on senior portrait sessions and weddings. I think it might have been then when I first started forming aspirations of making photography a career and not just an obsessive hobby.
So I was super happy when she said she’d assist me on weddings I did this summer.
Not only that, but when I wanted to do a mock engagment shoot to practice posing people, her and Doug were totally game.
I really enjoyed shootin’ their sass for an afternoon. They are great.

Pretty soon they’re going to move to Ireland where Kyle is accepting a head swim coach position. Awesome!

Isaac Shepard Senior Senior Photos, July 25th 2011
The Shepard’s are family friends and Isaac ran cross crountry when he was a freshman and I was a senior at CHS. So I was pretty stoked to do Isaac’s senior photos.
It was a lot of fun, and since I had the whole shoot already planed out, it was a breeze. A lot of times I’m not sure where to go next, but I had it all mapped out today. Definetely doing that for photo shoots in the future.
Really happy with how these turned out.

Joshua Photo-Shoot, July 24th 2011
To prepare for a senior-photos session I used my little brother Joshua as a model. He ended up being really good!
It was really helpful to try out stuff the day before and get everything looking just the way I wanted to so the next day I didn’t even have to think about it.
Tomorrow you’ll see what I mean. Some of the shots are pretty similar.

Dad Paddle Boarding, July 23rd 2011
This is Dad doing river-martial-arts.
Dad recentley bought a stand-up-paddele-board.
Random? Maybe a little.
But he can leave our driveway and be in the Wilamette River in 15 minutes, enjoying nature, water, and getting a workout.
I think it’s awesome.
Plus he let me try it out.
Corvallis Friends, July 22nd 2011

Getting to the Wedding, July 20th 2011
I use the GPS Sarah Lee gave me to get everywhere.
And I generally trust its every direction without questions.
But Brielle McClain and I were on our way to shoot a wedding all of a sudden the GPS takes us right up to a river bank.
And then it tells us to “Board the Ferry”
what?
Lo’ and behold there was a ferry for us to cross. It cost two bucks, but totally worth it.
And then it took us on our way.
So I guess it is still true: Trust the GPS

Selling the 24-70mm, July 18th 2011
The 24-70mm lens was awesome.
But it just so happens that there are even more awesome (and expensive!) lenses out there.
I decided that I’d sell my 24-70mm f/2.8 in order to buy a 24-105mm f/4.
Just personal preferance. I think the 24-105mm is a lot sharper than the 24-70mm which makes up for the differance in aperature.
A lot of my friends who also had the 24-70mm are also selling it (Sarah Lee, Brielle McClain) for the same reason. Sharpness. Interesting…

Minor Sidenote: Today is my 21st Birthday. Just thought I’d share that with you.
Back to business: This is David Finch and his brother, Chris, who was visiting for a week from Iowa. They decided to take a very Christmas-y pic next to the moving light-up dear in their garage.
