Peter Ramsing

Peter Ramsing is the most professional young person I know. I think the first time I ever saw him Peter was the sound technician at a local “teen idol” competition that my band in high school was competing in. A couple years later I really got to know him through the Mr. Spartan Pageant at Corvallis High School (Where he was Honorary Mr. Spartan and I was runner-up). Between then and now Peter has done everything from work for a social media company in Portland to making bank (and losing it) developing an iPhone app.  Today he is studying Economics and Business at Portland State University.

Peter is everything sleek and polished. He does flight simulations in his spare time on his  Macbook Pro hooked up to a 27” display. He drinks coffee almost as religiously as he follows the latest Apple news. And he geeks out with me about lenses photography, cameras, and HD video. I think the first HDR picture I ever saw was taken by and was of Peter. When you’re working with him, Peter is a problem solver. Technical glitches don’t phase him. There’s always a way to make it work. When you’re hanging out with him, he is energetic and creative. Conversations are always intelligent and genuine.

Peter’s style is businesslike. He’s usually wearing dress shoes, a collard shirt and a tie. Pretty much anything crisp, neat, and classy. And he behaves that way as well. He’s nerdy enough to know about anything your talking about (and more) and he’s normal enough to still go out and do fun things. Quite a good balance.

At one point he was even thinking he might get a plane and be able to fly down and see me at Chapman. That didn’t happen, but the point is that Peter thinks big. And he’s got the skills to make things happen. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Peter made a million dollars before he turned 30, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up working at a non-profit philanthropy, making people’s lives better  while making next to nothing. Whatever Peter chooses to do, he’s going to be successful at it, which is why I’m proud to call him my friend.
